Congratulations to Rosa 2nd Dan & Vicente 1st Dan Eddy Wolput & "Look-A-Like" student

Over the two days we explored the difficulties in controlling our inner, deeper core muscles.
This region cannot be seen from the outside and can only be felt by your partner.
Known as the TANDEN*, it is inside and at a level below the belt/navel and above the pubic bone.
This special abstract region enables the lateral hip rotation to be possible and with greater effect. Its centre is bewteen the hips and allows the body frame to be maintained yet rotationally shifted. This movement must not be created by twisting the knees or by pivoting the feet on the ground, as ultimately those movements are not good for our body. It is moving-without-moving and makes it difficult for a partner to "Mirror" and thus escape. This skill is difficult to achieve and needs very focussed and slow precise continuous movements in the beginning.

To develop and revise the muscle memory we practised various exercises. Initially solo then with a
partner. Slowly a better understanding and appreciation of the invisible power, stored in the region
below the belt. Hip action, although difficult to master, it can be visually seen. Inner movement
cannot be seen and it is evener hard to feel and so it is important to find and to master this concept.

To begin with we transferred this new skill to simplified techniques. Later we studied elements of
Koryu Dai San using our newly learned skill in it's primitive form.

The concept of "accepting" the opponents attack was discussed and practised. This opened up a whole new area and thinking.

By now we were all struggling with our bodies and minds, trying cope with these concepts, yet achieving a small degree of success and satisfaction.

To finish we practised the Basic 17, trying to apply the concepts which we had studied during the
seminar.

Some students were introduced to the concept of "KIGURAI", normally associated with the use of
weapons. The message taught on this occasion was how to apply this in daily life.

*SEIKA TANDEN

The Seika tanden (commonly referred to simply as the tanden) is an energy 'centre' or area - about
the size of a grapefruit - located deep inside the 'hara', roughly mid way between the top of the
pubic bone and the navel. The term Seika simply refers to 'below the Navel'. The word Tanden is the
Japanese equivalent of the Chinese: Tan Tien (also: dan tian) or 'field of the elixir'. Seika Tanden
is also known as the Kikai ('Ocean of Ki') Tanden, and as Seika no Itten (the 'One Point' below the
Navel)

[In some western Energy Disciplines it is referred to as the 'Lunar Plexus'.]

Physically speaking it is the body's centre of gravity.  It is said that Ki is moved by the mind "... where the attention goes, ki flows..."To effortlessly focus the awareness (thought-feeling) in seika tanden is to place one's energy there. Also, by placing effortless emphasis and energy at this area in the lower abdomen, integration of body and mind is deepened and strengthened, and the Spirit is
dynamically grounded in the present moment.
